Gradi SACERDOCE: A CLIMATE ACTIVIST IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
We are proud to feature an interview with Gradi Sacerdoce, the Co-founder of a company WASOMI- ULINZI SERVICES SARL, whose primary goal is to combat wildfire in mining sites. Grace is an extraordinary woman who fights daily against climate change in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
What prompted you to advocate against climate change?
I am a young professional female, living and working in the Democratic Republic of Congo. For the last 5 years, I have been deeply concerned about the impact of climate change in my community.
As a young female open to the world, I often read about conferences where climate change issues are discussed without representation of people from my community. Historically, my community has always had a profound relationship with the land, and witnessing the alarming changes in our environment due to climate change has motivated me to act.
What part of your work do you find most important?
The most important part of my work is collaborating with community leaders and organizations to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our natural resources because I always want to be the change that I want to see in the world, especially in my community
What are some of the greatest challenges you’ve faced? How have you overcome them?
We face many challenges: our limited resources, we are not able to help all those in need.
To change this, we spend a lot of time raising awareness about the importance of preserving our natural resources. Sharing our own experiences is also a source of hope for other in my community
